A New Opera
by David DiChiera and Bernard Uzan

Based on Edmond Rostand’s literary masterpiece, Cyrano de Bergerac, the opera recounts the story of Cyrano, a charismatic French nobleman, soldier, poet and all around factotum, who is afflicted with an astonishingly large nose. Though he has fallen deeply in love with his beautiful cousin, Roxane, Cyrano keeps his feelings to himself, convinced that his grotesque appearance would prevent his affections from being returned. In an attempt to vicariously woo Roxane, Cyrano agrees to help Christian, his handsome, yet inarticulate rival win her heart, by ghostwriting beautifully poetic love letters. It is only after Christian is dead and Cyrano, lay dying, that Roxane discovers the truth - that she has only loved one man all along, yet has lost him twice. Those with a nose for passion won’t want to miss this magnificent world premiere opera.
