Curtis Opera Theatre's Production
in association with Kimmel Center Presents
& Opera Company of Philadelphia
In March 2008, audiences packed the Perelman Theater for a groundbreaking new initiative between Curtis Opera Theatre, Kimmel Center Presents and the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Curtis Opera Theatre's Philadelphia premiere of Ainadamar left audiences breathless, paving the way for an equally mesmerizing operatic collaboration in 2009.
In its first fully staged Philadelphia performance since its American premiere here in 1931, Alban Berg's powerful, psychological thrill ride Wozzeck is wrought with emotionally gripping music and drama that's sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. The story of a soldier whose dark life is spiraling out of his grasp, Wozzeck stars Tony AwardŽ-winning Broadway star and Curtis Institute alumnus Shuler Hensley (Oklahoma!, Young Frankenstein) in the title role alongside the rising stars of the Curtis Opera Theatre. Maestro Corrado Rovaris leads the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in this new production directed by Emma Griffin and designed by David Zinn.
