La traviata - Week Three

Behind-the-Scenes Rehearsal Photos by Katharine Elliott. Learn more about La traviata.

Maestro Corrado Rovaris conducts the Opera
Company of Philadelphia Orchestra in the pit as
the cast of La traviata sings though the
first Dress Rehearsal.

From left to right, Marchese D’Obigny, sung by bass-baritone Thomas Shivone, Alfredo, sung by tenor Charles Castronovo,
and Gastone, sung by tenor Christopher Tiesi, greet each other at Violetta’s party. Baron  Douphol, baritone Eric Dubin
and Violetta’s friend Flora, soprano Allison Sanders, are also among the many guests.

As Alfredo, tenor Charles Castronovo, woos Violetta, soprano Leah Partridge, she begins to question her life of freedom.

A large mirror is the centerpiece of this
original Opera Company production.
Here the stage hands set into place
between the acts of La traviata.

Germont, baritone Mark Stone, comes to beg Violetta
to end her relationship with his son Alfredo.  He tells
Violetta that her questionable past is putting his daughter’s
upcoming marriage in jeopardy.

Alfredo, sung by tenor Charles Castronovo in his Opera Company of Philadelphia,
is heartbroken when he finds a note from Violetta ending their love affair.

Dancers Scott Lowe, Dana Dlugosz, Joy Havens, and Paul Struck, members of the Miro Dance Theatre
entertain the guests at Flora’s lavish celebration.

Alfredo, tenor Charles Castronovo, comes to Flora’s party knowing that
Violetta will be there.  He plays cards and, unable to convince her to go
with him, throws all of his winnings at Violetta, soprano Leah Partridge,
as “payment” for their time spent together.

Germont, baritone Mark Stone, arrives at
the party in time to witness his son throw
money at Violetta, soprano Leah Partridge,
who falls to the floor in disgrace.

Violetta, soprano Leah Partridge, finally succumbs to the illness that has been
plaguing her.  She knows that Alfredo has learned the truth about their separation and
bids farewell to her past.
