The 2014-2015 Season marks the 40th Anniversary of Opera Philadelphia. The season's five new productions form a celebration of our city's rich operatic tradition and usher in an exciting new era of music. While Philadelphia has always been an opera town, opera in Philadelphia has always been about firsts.
So this season, we welcome the World Premiere of Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD—a sonic exploration into the life (and afterlife) of the legendary jazz soloist starring the great tenor Lawrence Brownlee, and the East Coast Premiere of Oscar, a tragically beautiful tale of love and freedom starring the singular David Daniels. From homegrown superstar Eric Owens in Don Carlo to the emerging young cast of The Barber of Seville, this season marks a watershed moment 40 years in the making.
It is a journey—a carefully sequenced collection of the classic and the daring, the sublime and the surreal. It is an open dialogue between opera's biggest stars, its greatest fans, and its grandest stage. Simply put, it is opera at its most unforgettable. Join us for one remarkable season.
