Stephen A. Madva -- Chairman of the Board

Stephen A. Madva

Stephen A. Madva, Esq has served as an OCP Board member for seven years and is currently Chairman. In the year following the sudden death of Executive Director Jack Mulroney in 2004, Mr. Madva steered the Company through a re-organization and spearheaded the search for David Devan, the Company's Managing Director. Thanks in part to his efforts, as well as his generous contributed support both personally and through the law firm he chairs, Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, LLP, two years later OCP finds itself once again in a balanced position.

Mr. Madva is both a partner and chairman of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, LLP. A 1970 graduate of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, Mr. Madva received a B.A. degree, cum laude, in Russian studies. He earned his J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1973. After practicing for several years as a federal public defender in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Mr. Madva joined Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads in 1977. Since 1989, he has been a member of the firm's management committee. From 1996-2002 he served as chair of the Litigation Department which, with more than 100 lawyers, is considered one of the area's deepest and most sophisticated. He has been responsible, at various times, for the hiring, retention and promotion of the firm's lawyers, for business development, for strategic planning, and for acquisitions. Although specializing in complex commercial, class action and mass tort litigation, Mr. Madva has tried hundreds of cases of all types, including those involving business disputes, product liability, bankruptcy, environmental, and criminal law. Mr. Madva also possesses considerable skill in the amicable resolution of matters. He recently assisted a client, albeit after some protracted litigation, in the recovery of more than $300 million. Representative clients include The Celotex Corporation, American Meter Company, Ferag-Americas, Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Rohm and Haas, and the AHP Settlement Trust.

Mr. Madva is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers. He lectures frequently regarding complex litigation and on trial practice generally. Mr. Madva contributes a significant amount of time to non-profits in the region. Along with serving as Chairman of the board of directors of the Opera Company of Philadelphia, he is also chairman of the board of governors of St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Mr. Madva serves on the boards of the Kimmel Center, Inc., Community Legal Services, Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the Police Athletic League, The Defender Association of Philadelphia and Central Philadelphia Development Corporation (CPDC). He has been included for many years in Who's Who in American Lawyers, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
