Sounds of Learning™ literacy program is designed for students in grades 5-12. The program's objective is to encourage arts-integrated literacy development by using the opera libretto from the season's repertoire. Lessons are designed across the curriculum to improve student's literacy skills.
Teachers come to OCP's offices for a professional staff development session 4-6 weeks before bringing their students to the final dress rehearsal of an opera at the Academy of Music.
The education program provides lesson plans and student activity books at no cost for each opera. Transportation is provided for 5th-8th grade Philadelphia public school students.
