Opera North's Vanqui at the Annenberg Center

Upcoming Community Events!

Opera North's Vanqui at
the Annenberg Center's Zellerbach Theater

The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts presents Opera North, Inc.’s Vanqui, the award-winning opera, on Saturday, February 9th at 7:30pm at the Zellerbach Theater.

The Opera Company of Philadelphia is pleased to help spread the word about this opera that features music by Leslie Burrs and a libretto by John A. Williams. Vanqui tells the story of the title character and her husband, Prince - enslaved during the 19th Century - who transcend the bonds of slavery.

An exciting array of artists will be on hand to perform this remarkable jazz-influenced piece against the projected art of David C. Driskell, including famed actor Avery Brooks, conductor Kay George Roberts, and soprano Carmen Balthrop, with Diane Monroe, Gerald Veasley, Mogauwane Mahloele, and over 85 members of the Voices of Gwynedd choir of Gwynedd-Mercy College.

Call 215-898-3900 to order tickets! Mention that you are an Opera Company subscriber to receive the discounted price.

Tickets are also available online at the Penn Presents website.
(Please note, subscriber discount not available online.  Please call 215-898-3900 to receive your discount.)

Special Offer:
MAKE IT A FULL EVENING! Purchase a ticket to Vanqui, and then purchase another ticket to see rising star, jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding for only $15 (regular ticket price is $20.00). Esperanza Spalding appears at 9:30p.m. in the Prince Theatre - also at the Annenberg Center - just 20 minutes after Vanqui concludes.

Special thanks to the William Penn Foundation for their support of this project.
