Gingerbread House Event at IKEA Get ready for the much-anticipated performances of Humperdinck's masterpiece Hansel and Gretel as the Opera Company of Philadelphia partners with IKEA for a fun fall outing on Saturday, November 3, 2007 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Bring the entire family to either Philadelphia area IKEA location as we build Hansel and Gretel-inspired Gingerbread Houses. Also at the event will be a storyteller, contests for best Gingerbread House, and chances to win tickets to an upcoming performance of Hansel and Gretel! Registration is required.

A Family Guide to Opera For those bringing youngsters to see the upcoming production of Hansel and Gretel, the Opera Company is happ y to offer a complimentary copy of A Family Guide to Opera, a student workbook provided to all students participating in our award-winning Sounds of Learning program. Filled with background articles on composer Engelbert Humperdinck, the Brothers Grimm, a complete opera libretto, and more, it's the perfect tool to prepare your child for this heartwarming fairytale!
Email outreach@operaphila.org to have a workbook sent directly to you. Please include your name, address, and the number of guides needed. Limit 4 books per household.
Taste of Opera: Hansel and Gretel Prepare for Humperdinck's confection Hansel and Gretel with a complimentary piece of Angel Food Cake at A Taste of Opera on Sunday, November 11, 2007, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Park Hyatt Bellevue. Author Francine Segan brings us a true "taste of opera" as she explores Great Food at the Opera - from food in opera, to delicious dishes inspired by opera and opera singers. 
Then David Fox from the University of Pennsylvania discusses the surprisingly complex sides of Humperdinck's classic that even composer Richard Strauss called a masterpiece. Don't forget to make a brunch reservation at the Park Hyatt's XIX restaurant before attending A Taste of Opera. Opera Company subscribers receive a complimentary mimosa or bloody mary when they show their Subscriber ID Card at brunch.
Opera Overtures: Hansel and Gretel Opera Overtures is a great way to enhance your experience at the opera. Open to Subscribers only, these free 30-minute informal talks are held in the Academy of Music auditorium on the Parquet level, one hour before every performance. Opera Overtures will enhance your appreciation of all the operas you see this season. Join us to learn about musical, production, social, literary and other opera-related themes that you won't get elsewhere. Please enter on the Locust Street side of the Academy of Music.
