A "lovable, storybook production..." - The Philadelphia Inquirer
Audiences are laughing and the critics are raving: Don't miss the last week of The Italian Girl in Algiers!

What better time than November to get swept off to exotic Algiers where a beautiful harem awaits, scheming follies take place, and Rossini’s infectious melodies will leave a smile on your face.
You may think you know Rossini’s enchanting tale of the Italian girl who outsmarts the Algerian ruler Mustafa to escape his harem and rescue her true love, but The Philadelphia Inquirer recently claimed "even with a familiar production, the opera was a new experience."
"Above all, any Italiana production must be good company. And the Paul Shortt set design for the Philadelphia production - with its vivid seaside colors and surprisingly deft ability to be fanciful but not silly - is a winning visual environment."
There are only three performances left to see this hilarious, farcical romp with an international all-star cast you don’t want to miss!

From left to right, tenor Lawrence Brownlee, mezzo- soprano Ruxandra Donose, and buffo bass Kevin Glavin. |
"As Mustafa, Glavin executed with exasperated directness that kept the intrigue as real as it can be..."
"Donose, in the title role, has never been more physically alluring…she gave phrase shapes and dramatic ideas rather than individual vocal skyrockets."
"Even the best coloratura tenors sound like stunt singers, but not [Lawrence Brownlee]. His phrasing was marvelously conversational, as if speaking a first language." - The Philadelphia Inquirer
