Italian Girl Stars Headline the Annual Richard Tucker Foundation Gala Under the Baton of Maestro Corrado Rovaris
Every year the Richard Tucker Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the support and advancement of promising and talented American opera singers, hosts its star-studded gala concert at New York’s Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. This year’s prestigious concert, which took place on Sunday, October 26th, featured three familiar faces from the Opera Company’s Italian Girl in Algiers.
Maestro Corrado Rovaris had the distinct honor of leading members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in a program that featured emerging singers along side established stars and members of the New York Choral Society. Among the celebrated list of performers were mezzo-soprano Ruxandra Donose, The Italian Girl in Algiers’ Isabella; and the recipient of the 2006 Richard Tucker Award, tenor Lawrence Brownlee, who The New York Times called “an impressive tenor…earning recognition for his prowess in bel canto roles.” Brownlee, who sings the role of Lindoro in The Italian Girl in Algiers, performed the opera’s show-stopping aria “Languir per una bella,” according to The Times “…with aplomb, easily navigating the coloratura hurdles with a warm, sweet timbre.”
