Opera Company of Philadelphia Season Finale: Spellbinding Norma Takes the Stage April 4-18
Bellini’s bel canto masterpiece Norma comes to the Academy of Music for the first time in over a decade to close the Opera Company’s 33rd season. Norma, a Druid priestess, has broken her vows of celibacy and mothered two children with Pollione, ruler of the opposing Roman army. After urging her Druid people not to war against the Romans, Norma learns that Pollione is in love with Adalgisa, unleashing a torrent of emotions, from revenge and despair to ultimate love and honor.
With sweet melodies and thrilling vocal fireworks, Norma is considered by many to be the ultimate operatic experience and when Norma sings the incomparable “Casta diva,” which defined legendary voices like Maria Callas, the entire operatic world stands still. Starring in one of the most challenging soprano roles ever written is powerhouse soprano Christine Goerke, who is joined by a renowned international cast including mezzo-soprano Kristine Jepson, tenor Philip Webb, and bass-baritone Eric Owens. Don’t miss this must-see season finale!
