The Opera Company is excited to announce a stunning new host for our upcoming Taste of Opera lecture on Sunday March 30th: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. This presentation will feature a recital of bel canto arias with soprano Jennifer Check, mezzo-soprano Allison Sanders, and baritone Christopher Bolduc with Opera Company Artistic Coordinator Laurie Rogers at the piano. After the recital, PAFA's docents will be on hand to provide patrons with additional information on the masterpieces within the galleries. Patrons are encouraged to take in a light lunch or snack before the recital at PAFA's Academy Cafe, which features an eclectic menu of gourmet items by caterer Jimmy Duffy & Sons, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Bellini’s spell-binding bel canto masterpiece comes to the Academy of Music stage for the first time in a decade in a breathtaking production that brings the drama and heartbreak of Norma to vivid life. Powerhouse soprano Christine Goerke (Falstaff, ’07) stars as the Druid priestess who has broken her vows of celibacy and mothered two children with the ruler of the opposing Roman army, only to learn that he is in love with another. Norma runs the gamut of emotions from revenge and despair to ultimate love and honor, and is a season finale that’s not to be missed!
