What The Press is Saying About Norma:
"... vocally all three leads seem to supersede any physical limitations to scale the demanding heights of both the music and the Bel Canto style the singing requires." - Jim Rutter, Broad Street Review
"In the Opera Company of Philadelphia grandly rendered current production, stage director Kay Walker Castaldo and maestro Corrado Rovaris give Norma plenty of dramatic fire and music." - Steve Cohen, Broad Street Review
"Those in attendance will not soon to forget the long entrance of Bellini’s premiere soul of casta diva, here magnificently portrayed by the transcendent soprano Christine Goerke.... it is Goerke's vocal performance that is a marvel, so totally invested emotionally and technically in portraying Norma." - Lewis Whittington, Edge Philadelphia
"Conductor Corrado Rovaris was ready for galvanization with a lean, vital approach to the score, rock-solid playing from the orchestra, and pulse-racing tempos that felt completely right..." - David Patrick Stearns, The Philadelphia Inquirer
While critical acclaim is pouring in, the exuberance of Norma's audiences has been undeniable, with praise coming in for the international cast of voices and the highly theatrical production that signifies the finale of an unforgettable opera season. REMINDER: No Late Seating Policy and Pre-Opera Lectures
We'd like to remind all ticket holders that the Opera Company of Philadelphia upholds the national standard of "no late seating" once the overture has begun. For Norma, latecomers will NOT BE SEATED UNTIL INTERMISSION, which is 85 minutes into the show!
Because the Avenue of the Arts has a thriving performance scene with many curtain times coinciding with one another, we ask you to carefully plan your travel, parking and dining to arrive with plenty of time to take your seat before curtain time. Visit our web site for tips on travel planning!
And what better way to ensure you will be on time for the opera -- and to learn about the performance you are about to see -- than to attend one of our Opera Overtures pre-opera lectures. Held one hour prior to curtain and open to subscribers, these casual but informative talks are a great appetizer to the entree of grand opera!
