Celebrate Jun Kaneko at Locks Gallery: Oct. 4 - Nov. 8
The Locks Gallery, on Washington Square, will feature artist Jun Kaneko, set and costume designer for the Opera Company’s Fidelio, in an exhibit of his works on paper and ceramic sculpture, which Art critic Arthur Danto has described as “an extraordinary creation, inasmuch as it combines monumentality with warmth and a kind of emotional lightness.” Click here to read more about this exciting exhibit.
Taste of Opera - Sunday, October 5, 2008 Free and open to the general public, A Taste of Opera is the perfect introduction to Fidelio and all of our 2008-2009 operas. Presented in the beautiful rotunda of Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts’ Historic Landmark Building, A Taste of Opera will be held on Sunday, October 5th at 2:00pm and is the perfect way to prepare for this exciting new production. The lecture will explore Fidelio, its music and its composer, with discussions by Director Robert B. Driver, Director of Community Programs Michael Bolton, and Assistant Conductor Laurie Rogers. Opera Overtures – one hour before every performance These free 30-minute informal talks are held in the Academy of Music auditorium on the Parquet level, one hour before every performance. Open to subscribers only, Opera Overtures will enhance your appreciation of all the operas you see this season. Opening Night Fidelio Gala Join us on Friday, October 10th for the Opening Night Fidelio Gala, featuring cocktails and an elegant pre-opera dinner at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue’s Rose Garden, the Premiere of Fidelio and a lavish dessert reception following the performance where you can mingle with the stars of the show.
