For the 2018-2019 Season, Opera Philadelphia will offer three productions in the Academy of Music at Broad and Locust Streets.

Based on Sir Walter Scott’s 1819 novel The Bride of Lammermoor, Donizetti’s classic retelling is highlighted by a tragic love story, family politics, an arranged marriage, and a descent into madness. This operatic masterpiece takes an appropriately dreamlike, ethereal turn in this new production by Laurent Pelly, who was named Best Director at the 2016 International Opera Awards.

A jovial adaptation of Shakespeare’s popular comedy follows a throng of characters as they get tangled in complicated love triangles, mistaken identities, and hilariously alarming transformations. One of Britten’s most brilliant scores, the role of Puck is a speaking role portrayed by actor Miltos Yerolemou, known for his appearances as Arya Stark’s sword fighting teacher on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

A chance encounter on a winter night changes everything for Mimì and Rodolfo, sending them into a deep, passionate whirlwind in the heart of Paris, living among other young bohemians who are making art and falling in love. This popular revival of Puccini’s romantic blockbuster features sets inspired and enlivened by Impressionist masterpieces from the Barnes Foundation and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
