Backstage Pass at the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Services Center
Backstage Pass program at the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Services Center is one of Opera Philadelphia’s newer initiatives. Through this program, high school-aged students at the center will receive hands-on vocational training in the world of technical theater. For 5 weeks participants explore backstage roles, from carpentry to costumes, guided by industry professionals. The program also includes networking opportunities and a special artist visit from the Opera Philadelphia season. This up close and personal connection to both the art and the work “behind the scenes” provides students with valuable skills and insights into the production and creative process. Upon completion, students will have the ability to begin the steps to become part of the IATSE union.
