Opera Philadelphia is a leader in commissioning and producing new works. Since 2012, we have commissioned or co-commissioned eleven new operas. In September, as part of O17, we presented three simultaneous world premieres. Opera Philadelphia’s Vice President of Community Initiatives Michael Bolton and New Works Administrator Sarah Williams will take you on a deep dive into how a new opera is created—from commission and workshops to the rehearsal process, opening night, and beyond. Light refreshments will be served.
