Backstage Pass Sneak Peek Event with Music: Not Impossible

ExCITe Center
3401 Market St #100
Philadelphia, PA 19104

Join past, present, and future Backstage Pass students for a special site visit to Music: Not Impossible to see technology that creates artwork in response to the human voice. This exclusive one-day workshop will give students special access to Daniel Belquer, the creator of this technology, and a chance to see it up close and in action before it takes the stage at Vox Ex Machina, presented by Opera Philadelphia on September 13th. Students will also have the chance to learn about Opera Philadelphia’s Backstage Pass, a technical theater training program for high school students, which begins in November.

Advance registration is required, and only 10 spots are available. This workshop is for high school students.

ABOUT THE MACHINE
In the winter of 2025, Opera Philadelphia partnered with Drexel University’s ExCITe Center and artist and creative technologist Daniel Belquer to launch a course with the goal of creating a machine that could take variables such as pitch and volume from a singer’s performance and paint a canvas in response to an aria as it unfolds. The audience will see these sonic visual representations materialize during this one-of-a-kind concert.
