ANDY: A Popera Takes Home Two Barrymore Awards

On the evening of Monday, October 24, the 2016 Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre were presented to the region's top professional theatre artists at the Merriam Theater - and we are ecstatic to see two of our friends, Scott McPheeters and Malgorzata Kasprzycka, among the honorees!

Scott took home the award for Outstanding Leading Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Candy Darling and Malgorzata, affectionately known as Gosia, received the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Julia Warhola, Andy's mother, in ANDY: A PoperaA co-production with The Bearded Ladies and a part of the 2015 Fringe FestivalANDY transformed a Kensington warehouse into a fabulous den of pop iconography and absurdity for a sell-out run in September 2015.

Heath Allen and Dan Visconti also received a Barrymore nomination for Outstanding Original Music and Heath Allen was nominated for Outstanding Music Direction, both for ANDY: A Popera, and The Bearded Ladies Cabaret was nominated for the June and Steve Wolfson Award for an Evolving Theatre Company. The Barrymore Awards have been honoring theatre companies and artists in the Greater Philadelphia region since 1994.
